Chicago White Sox spring training recap

Spring record: 7-8.

At the plate: Josh Fields hit his first Cactus League home run, a solo shot over the 400-foot sign in center. Gordon Beckham ripped a single up the middle against Kyle Davies.

On the mound: Sidearm reliever Ehren Wassermann, battling for a spot, broke Tony Pena Jr.'s bat to induce a double play and bail Clayton Richard out of a jam in the fourth.

In the field: Beckham, playing shortstop, made a diving stop and hard, accurate throw to retire Willie Bloomquist to end the sixth. In the first, first baseman Josh Kroeger botched a rundown that prevented a pickoff by Richard.

Big impression: Center fielder Dewayne Wise continues to perform the little things that could earn him at least a share of the leadoff duties. He generated the Sox's first run in the first inning, and he laid down a bunt single in the fifth. He's hitting .412.
